Economists suggest $10 daily tax for those who work from home

quote [ The base argument here is that people who work from home aren't using gas, buying coffee, doing things to help the economy that those who go into work tend to do.

Deutsche Bank researcher Luke Templeman is suggesting a $10 a day work from home tax in the U.S. ]

I read this bullshit logic and now I'm asking you to share the burden of my curse. I think my ears are bleeding.

Bernie Sanders' Sexism Problem

quote [ When women who worked for him came forward to discuss how they were paid less and experienced sexual harassment, Bernie initially replied, “I was a little bit busy running around the country” [...] That’s in keeping with someone who claimed, “women’s issues were a distraction.” ]

Old article but addresses issues SE has never really discussed.

QAnon Lost and Confused After Trump’s Election Showing

quote [ Since Oct. 2017, when the mysterious “Q” first began issuing clues on the anonymous message board 4Chan, QAnon believers have been promised that Trump would bring down a “cabal” of pedophile-cannibals in the Democratic Party, Hollywood, and banking with mass waves of arrests in a cathartic moment called “The Storm.” ]

Anything is possible when you lie!

How Do You Copyright Clown Make-Up?

quote [ Debbie Smith has her work cut out for her. Since 2010 she has been the artist responsible for recording the likeness of every clown registered with Clowns International, the oldest established organization for clowns in the United Kingdom. ]

There are some oddly specific jobs out there.

Scientists find intact brain cells in skull of man killed in Vesuvius eruption nearly 2,000 years ago

quote [ The brain cells of a young man who died almost 2,000 years ago in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius have been found intact by a team of researchers in Italy. ]

Now that we know to look for this, it might have broader implications for ancient animal species whose brains we know nothing about.

How the Klan Got Its Stupid Hood

quote [ The Morelia mural swarms with robed men in peaked white hoods, suggesting one particular kind of terrorism for viewers then and now. But in 1934, when the mural was painted, the Ku Klux Klan’s white hood had been standardized for only two decades. How the Ku Klux Klan’s white hood came to be an icon of hatred is the story of image-makers. ]

They used to use burlap sacks.

Neo-Nazis Allegedly Discussed Opening Fire at Virginia’s Pro-Gun Rally Slated for Monday

quote [ Three suspected white supremacists who were arrested Thursday in Maryland had discussed opening fire from the pro-gun rally that will take place in Virginia this coming Monday, according to the Wall Street Journal. Law enforcement officials on Friday said that the men had allegedly been planning to sow chaos and further their goal of “accelerat[ing] the downfall of the U.S. government” so that a white ethno-state can take its place. ]

So stupid... it could work? I can't even.

The Ethical Dilemmas Surrounding 3D-Printed Human Bones

quote [ But the proliferation of faux bones also poses an ethical dilemma—and one that, prior to the advent of accessible 3D printing, was mostly limited to museum collections containing skeletons of dubious provenance. Laws governing how real human remains of any kind may be obtained and used for research, after all—as well as whether individuals can buy and sell such remains— are already uneven worldwide. ]

No longer human remains but still the likeness and identity of the original.

Dinosaurs: The Making of TV’s Saddest, Strangest Sitcom Finale

quote [ The show was called Dinosaurs, and it was essentially an inverse of The Flintstones. A sitcom set in prehistoric times, it followed a family of dinosaurs that used technology, got married, had kids, and went to work, all while humans lingered around as stupid creatures worthy of ridicule. But in its finale, the show’s creators twisted that premise to give a grave warning: Driven by ignorance and greed, the dinosaurs accidentally spark an Ice Age that causes worldwide extinction. ]

I have vague memories of liking this show.

A New Room Has Been Discovered in the Winchester Mystery House

quote [ The labyrinthine home was constructed over a period of 38 years by Sarah Winchester, the wealthy widow of William Wirt Winchester, of Winchester rifle fame. After the premature deaths of her daughter and husband, a shaken Mrs. Winchester reportedly consulted a medium, who informed her that the spirits of those killed by Winchester rifles were haunting her family. ]

Maybe it wasn't ghosts. Maybe it was froggers.
