Overtone Singing

quote [ Overtone singing is a voice technique where it seems like one person sings two notes at the same time. ]

Also there's Mongolian throat singing. This is the method I've heard before with more of a raspy drone - I hadn't heard such a clear drone before I saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qx8hrhBZJ98

Yes, but can she whistle and sing at the same time like I can?

Just whistle, and then hum instead of blowing. Makes great UFO noises.

I was totally addicted to doing that when I was seven. Drove my sister crazy, but I still think it's super-cool.

Every couple years or so I remember that that's a thing I used to do when I was a kid and then spend a few hours trying to learn to control the pitches of the whistle and the hum separately before quitting in frustration.

I still do it sometimes on long drives alone. That and finding the perfectly pitched, loud, "Eeeeeee..." sound that resonates with my skull so that it sounds like the entire universe is buzzing.

I learned it when I saw Jim carrey do it in dumb and dumber. "Tractor beam: rvrvrvrvrv"

That's the weirdest sound I've ever heard come out of a human.

I can do this a little bit. The hardest part is not making the overtones, but making them loud compared to the drone, and controlling the pitch.

Quick and dirty technique: Say the word "Bird" with a really exaggerated "r" sound, but stop and hold on the "errrrrr". Then kind of roll your tongue forward to make a long "eeeee" sound. Practice rolling your tongue back and forth between "errrrrrr" and "eeeeeee" (doing it in a shower stall where you can get a good echo and hear yourself helps). Mess around with it (try slightly different tongue and lip positions) and at some point you should be able to hear the overtone getting higher and lower as you roll back and forth. It's not as good as these people but it's relatively easy and gives you a sense of what's going on.

This is just one technique, that produces an overtone above the main pitch. Other techniques can produce lower tones instead.
