A Way Out

quote [ Some of us were purists, who missed the forest for the trees, while others were pragmatists who admitted that, yes, perhaps Hal Rogers was bad, but he could be worked with because it was in his interest to move the region away from coal.

In the end, only the congressman benefited ]

Not a new story, but a recurring theme experienced by NGOs worldwide. Everything is complicated – or not.

That’s disheartening but insightful

Actually, that took a turn I was not expecting. :)

I mean, they're right, NGOs, non-profits are working within a framework that creates the illusion of choice between options that don't make a difference. Like with that UBI post, making everything about jobs rather than humanitarian conditions. We don't need to be fulfilling the the whims of every jackass with capital in order to lead happy fulfilling lives, that's just the framework we've been forced into in order to acquire the bare minimum to survive. The idea of post-scarcity has been argued for decades, and the same poor fools that go on and on about meritocracy completely miss the self-inflicted brain drain they're imposing on society by maintaining a structure that puts education and resources out of reach for billions of people. That's one of the reason I'm freaking so hard on co2 numbers and cognition, we're already shooting ourselves in the foot; As our cognition takes a hit and we become dependent on technology to survive earth's increasingly hostile environment, the number of brains capable of maintaining and innovating that tech humanity relies on is going to dwindle FAST. Rich people think they're going to be able to buy their way out of the harsh realities of climate change, and they will, until they just can't anymore. And by then it will be too late for all of humanity.
