quote [ Scandinavian noir is a global phenomenon but Nordic comedies often fail to translate. ]
I'm just using this article as an excuse to post some of my short favorites in the extended. Marked SFW, but some of the clips contain strong language, if you need to look out for that.
Studio Julmahuvi and Ihmebantu were Finnish tv-shows that were written and directed by pretty much the same group of comedians.

I saw Night on Earth in college, and loved it. I loved it except for the last segment which takes place in Helsinki, Finland, which seemed bizarrely out of place and depressing compared to the first four segments set in different cities around the world. It was years later that I found out that was the point, and it was supposed to be so rediculously sad and depressing that it's funny, poking fun at the gloomy Scandanavians. I've since watched it several times and enjoyed that last segment, too.

3/5 of the movie is subtitled, for France, Italy and Finland, so those averse to subtitles beware. The trailer only shows dialog from New York and LA. Night on Earth - Trailer - Jim Jarmusch
