What Does Saying That 'Programming Is Hard' Really Say, and About Whom?

quote [ Is that really the image that we intend to portray or is it just a byproduct of computing culture? If educators think that programming is scary, how can we expect students to think any differently? ]

interesting deduction. Found this via another popular article stating that it's mostly coping with frustration.

A decade after graduating, my alma mater asked all alumni with degrees in Comp Sci "What one piece of advice would you offer incoming Freshman entrants to this degree program?" The alumni would later vote on the submitted advice. Mine was "If you don't already know how to program, or at least enjoy doing logic puzzles in your free time, find another major." This proved very popular among alumni, and so unpopular among the faculty that I got some very angry emails.
