This is all hearsay, but I'm sure having done huge amounts of drugs didn't help his health. Also hearsay but his firing from SNL had more to do with his refusing to hold back on overt racism, not his attacks on OJ Simpson, although there could be a broad crossover. That being said he was one of my favorite comedians. And that being said so was Bill Cosby (his albums 200MPH and Revenge are hilarious) so don't take my judgement for anything.
