What The Hell Happened To Social Media?

quote [ Half-baked goods flying over social media, people trying to decipher the good from the bad in their own way. An information super-highway like social media and the internet is amazing, but it’ll be a disaster if the drivers can’t see what’s ahead.

Social media needs to take more responsibility for what they do, how they do it, and how well the users know what’s being done. ]

We have a motely collection of opinionated folk on this site. If you caught PBS Frontline last night, Alex Jones was there Jan 6. I never understood why a whole country would follow Hitler, but it's clear now,

Social media is a web of problems. I think one of the central ones is that it allows people with rare beliefs/interests to find each other, develop a community, network, etc., but there is no moderation in terms of what communities are good for society.

Rare leukemia support group? Good.

Flat-earthers? Dumb, but probably harmless.

Holocaust deniers, proud boys, weather underground, animal liberation front? Bad.

We don't have a way of checking the creation and growth and commingling of poisonous groups, and worse still, they are highly engaged, which is all the social media networks care about until the headlines come.

Is there weather underground? Like, in the space inside the hollow Earth?

There are some buildings that are big enough to have weather, so yes.
