quote [ Billionaire Michael Bloomberg has reportedly raised more than $16 million in an effort to help convicted felons in Florida register to vote.  ]

The people voted to restore felon voting rights, Florida legislature stymied them with a poll tax. Now Bloomberg has made himself useful. Yay.

Did he *pay* the fines like the headline says, or did he *raise money* to pay the fines like the first line of the article says? I mean, either way, good for him and good for the people who get the vote, but it's kind of sad when a story manages to contradict itself in the first 20 words.

It's probably both.

He created a charity, or already had one, and it raised money and then he was able to donate the money, taking the tax write off. Or something like that.

Also, billionaire raising money for anything is also... like... go fuck yourself.

I know, I hate to give the fucker credit for doing something not horrible when there shouldn't even be billionaires.

The best I can do is split the action with the cause. For example, I got into an argument about Bill Gates donating money to various charities. My stance was "It is good that he is donating his money. It is undemocratic that he gets to choose what problems deserve fixing, and it is unethical to have to depend on a sole person to fix communal problems."

And while he's doing that, him and his deceased dad advocated for a whopping inheritance tax. You know, because if you inherit tens of millions of dollars, you sit on your ass and do nothing but eat bon bon's and watch netflix.

If they're not actively scheming to harvest your bone marrow to make themselves bone marrow mattresses, we should probably just be thankful.

I wonder if human bone marrow is anything like bovine marrow.

'cause I love me some bovine bone marrow on toast. Maybe it'll be a blooming industry. 0_o
