quote [ Martin’s essay is fun and funny, but the more serious point is that we are taught status systems and occupational hierarchies, even as very young children, so much that they become a part of the unconscious ways we see and experience the social world. ]

[Score:1 Underrated]
Because the thing about repairing, maintaining, and cleaning is it's not an adventure. There's no way to do it so wrong you might die. It's just work. And the bottom line is, some people are okay going to work, and some people well, some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose.- Dr. Wong |

For the same reason you realize everyone else's light switches are disgusting, but don't notice your own are gaining a unique texture. It happens so slowly and you see it so constantly that you just don't really notice. You also tend to think that it's just discoloring with time or that it was always sort of that color.
Seriously, go get a rag and wipe down your light switches and knobs. They're disgusting. |

Do you eat honey and Cheetos then touch all your light switches? All my light switches look and feel new and I never clean them.

Just skin oil and general dust and grime. I see it everywhere.
