Facebook helping advertisers target teens who feel “worthless”

quote [ Facebook's algorithms can determine, and allow advertisers to pinpoint, "moments when young people need a confidence boost." If that phrase isn't clear enough, Facebook's document offers a litany of teen emotional states that the company claims it can estimate based on how teens use the service, including "worthless," "insecure," "defeated," "anxious," "silly," "useless," "stupid," "overwhelmed," "stressed," and "a failure." ]

If there's one thing a teen feeling 'worthless' needs it's a company exploiting that.

Also, Bubble - a TV pilot for a dystopian future hipster comedy written by Jordan Morris (a comedian who is probably not to your taste). It has monsters and male kegels.

Bubble

Morgan and her friends live in Fairhaven, a Brooklyn-esque Silverlake-y hipster paradise where trust fund kids go to be lightly employed and follow their dreams, or whatever. PROS: Great coffee, burgeoning art scene, artisanal vape shops. CONS: Separated from the outside world by a man-made bubble, murderous beasts from the outside are slowly invading, long waits for brunch.

I liked it.

To be fair, they're not completely worthless if somebody wants to exploit them.

Shakespeare was only slightly wrong. Killing all the lawyers is obviously a terrible idea, sometimes you need a lawyer really badly.

Now killing all the marketers, on the other hand...

But your chances of needing a lawyer really badly is significantly reduced if they've all been killed off.

That's also how you feel about guns, isn't it?

Outlaw lawyers, guns and money.

Well, this is a logical step further down a dark road. Hospitals view diseases etc. as market segments and the treatments thereof as profit centres so...

Not here they don't.

I think if this were happening in the US it would probably go through (companies are people and all that). But to try it in Australia and New Zealand seems guaranteed to cause outrage.
