Do we need fake meat? There are already plenty of vegan protein sources. Who is fake meat for, vegans or people who refuse to give up meat?

Do we need fake fur and fake leather? Apparently yes. People are dumb and don't change - it takes generations to make societal changes. If we can say "Hey, look buddy, you can still have your steak today and you won't notice." Then we can make substantial changes we need to make quickly.

So I guess fake meat is for non-vegans. You're right; it takes generations to make societal changes. That's why I think most meat eaters will continue eating animals even after vegan meat becomes practical.

For many people, fake meat is about animal welfare. I love steak. I don't love the way most factory farming goes.
It also creates the opportunity for freeing up a massive amount of ranchland that could be utilized for other things. Cows take a LOT of space. |
