I've abandoned a few books. Oliver Twist, The Jungle, Dandelion Wine, Malleus Maleficarum, The House of the Seven Gables, The Sea Wolf, Kidnapped, and A Tale of a Tub. I don't feel bad about it. Why should I waste my time reading a book I don't like when I could read a book I do like. I only have so much time in my life and I'm not going to waste it on unenjoyable books.

I had a girlfriend who was incapable of abandoning a book or movie once she had started it, no matter how much she disliked it. Never made any sense to me, life is too short.

I also wonder why some people treat media like that, but then again, I'm sometimes envious of someone being able to pull off the whole read instead of being distracted after half a chapter.

I wasn't distracted. I genuinely didn't like those books. With The Jungle, I got halfway through before I decided that the author had made his point and there was no point in reading any further. I got maybe 3 or 4 chapters into Oliver Twist before I decided it was reminding me too much of The Jungle. Same with The Sea Wolf and The House of the Seven Gables. With Malleus Maleficarum, I couldn't stand to read such stupidity. Dandelion Wine seemed like aimless stream of consciousness with no point to it.
