Charles Barkley is selling Olympic gold medal and NBA MVP award to build affordable housing in hometown

quote [ "I used to keep it at my grandmother's house, but they all passed away, and I don't want that stuff crapping up my house." ]

This really puts cleaning my parents' house out after my Dad's death into perspective - if an Olympic gold medal is crap, what isn't?

Thumbnail is Barkley's high school basketball jersey from his hometown of Leeds.

"I don't think I have to walk around with my gold medal or my MVP trophy for people to know I'm Charles Barkley."

Good for him. The world needs more rich people like him.

Dude's net worth is $40,000,000. I'm pretty sure he could afford to build 20 affordable houses by just spending his own money on them without all the attention-whoring bullshit. But yeah, good on him for incidentally doing a tiny bit of good while pumping up his own personal brand and clawing his way back into the spotlight with little to no financial discomfort to himself, because that's still a lot better that what most rich people do.
