Why can’t we see that we’re living in a golden age?

quote [ Part of our problem is one of success. As we get richer, our tolerance for global poverty diminishes. So we get angrier about injustices.

..when we don’t see the progress we have made, we begin to search for scapegoats for the problems that remain. Sometimes, in the past and perhaps today, we have been too quick to try our luck with demagogues who offer simple solutions to make our nations great again — whether by nationalising the economy, blocking imports or throwing out immigrants. If we think we don’t have anything to lose in doing so, it’s because our memories are faulty. ]

I thought this worth sharing

Before I even clicked on the article, I knew it was going to be a "those damn uppity slaves - we go out of our way to rescue them from a backwards, primitive, poverty inflicted continent and bring them here out of the goodness of our hearts - give them a place to sleep, meals, and some fulfilling work to do for the day and all they do is gripe and moan" pieces.

The only reason I actually did click on it was to see if Adele Ferguson had a hand in writing it so that I could give it the decent thrashing it deserved.
