Schools: Because of a deadly pandemic, students will be learning from home via computer
Parents: OUR KIDS CAN'T LEARN SITTING IN FRONT OF A SCREEN!!! WE NEED THEM IN CLASSES! Schools: Now that students are in class, they will not be allowed screen time. Parents: YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TAKE MY KID'S SCREEN!!! THEY NEEEEED IT!!! Parents are the worst. |

My kids school is doing this. I feel like it's a money grab from the phone bag company. They cancelled a lot of after school busing to different things to pay for it.
Basically, the school purchased a fannypack for each kid that can only be opened by the school with a special magnet tool. They lock their phone in the bag at the start of the day, carry it with them all day, and have it unlocked when they leave. Extremely time consuming for a large student population. |

I made the mistake of being vocally against this sort of blanket ban locally (Alberta, Canada). Until we actually empower the education system to promote consequences, shit like this will mostly fail. Parent groups are the worst, we expect way too much of teachers, and we've offered zero protection for schools in the event this backfires.
What happens when the problem kid breaks into the teacher's desk and steals 5 phones? I sure wouldn't collect phones at a teacher. |
