Gradient and spectrum are synonymous in some contexts, so this "distinction" is more confusing than helpful. I see she's not the only one to use this terminology, too.

The rainbow analogy is okay, but they could pick something better. It's a collection of spectrums (or gradients, or ranges, or whatever similar term you want to use).

Heck, a bar graph (especially with clear separation between bars) might be a better visual aid.
