Kyle Rittenhouse acquitted of all charges in Kenosha shooting

quote [ Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted Friday on all charges for shootings that killed two men and injured a third during last year’s violence in Kenosha, Wisconsin. ]

Oh no. This can only lead to terrible things in the future. I really hope the protests aren't too violent this time.

While there was always a pervasive "whiteness" to American culture, I feel America by the 2000s hid or covered up it's racism well enough to the point where a fair portion of minorities actually believed there was at least hope... maybe a chance... of getting a fair shake in society. Even though things were not ideal, it seems American society was at least striving towards, at minimum, a level of tolerance towards others who looked dissimilar.

Right now, I am dispirited to my core. Though America has not reverted into its vicious historical roots of enslaving people with "black" skin, or dehumanizing or interning people with "yellow" skin, (with the recent exception of it's detainment and separation of family members with "brown" skin,) it's turned into something else that may be even more insidious. Trump showed his ilk how to generate a narrative by repeatedly lying to the public. At the same time, the supposed champions of the diverse seem reserved to the point of being ineffectual.

I don't know how America is going to turn it around. I still have great hopes for our nation, but the direction the US is going looks like just the start of the slippery slope into decline.
I fear the day that China's use of the same public brainwashing playbook reveals it as the preeminent superpower, as the USA is hamstrung because the tenets of a thriving democratic society have been felled from within by it's own.

For State of WI vs. Rittenhouse, there seems to be at least a big whiff of judicial misconduct. The judge crippled the prosecution and even dictated how the people killed could not be described as "victims." As if the phrase "victim of a gunshot" describes anything other than being on the wrong side of a bullet.

Also, the offers of internships with Gaetz, Gosar or Cawthorn show that shooting people opens up job opportunities if you are white and conservative.

I'm 48, Blackish, and I've lived in the US all my life. I've never felt the possible oppression of racism until the past few years. Yeah, I've witnessed it, but these past few years have felt malicious, like we're one incident away from a full-on war. I don't see hope where you see it - far-too realistic and pessimistic for that, I guess - but I WANT to believe it's not too late, even if in my heart, I KNOW it's too late.

It is ridiculous they called out the National Guard in case of this very verdict. Nobody is surprised. This is just more of the same protection of violent, fatal whiteness as usual.

Will there be some agent provocateurs like last summer? Maybe. But there won't be enough people to incite to get too far.

Let's hope.

Now, the case against the killers of Ahmaud Arbery? If that goes sideways, even if many of us expect it to, there's going to be problems, and rightfully so.

I dunno. I think this might have ramifications that won't be noticed until the shit really hits the fan. Another riot, protest. On both sides. I see a person of color bringing an ar15 to a protest and firing it at counter protestors and saying he felt threatened. All because of rittenhouse.

And I've seen plenty of video of clashes between right and left. All of which resulted in fisticuffs or some sort of violence. This just opened the gates to vigilantism and self defense. A guilty verdict in the arbury case won't really temper the feelings of injustice. . .

Here's an interesting thing. So people defending hero Kyle are disputing that crossing state lines has any legal ramification on anything, daring people to prove them wrong. So, if you say do a google search for "crossing state lines laws" you'll get exactly what you expect:
Crossing state lines can make something a federal crime
Mann Act - Wikipedia
State Lines and The Age of Consent - Corrigan Welbourn Stokke
29 CFR § 776.12 - Employees traveling across State lines.
Etc. You know, stuff about the legal ramifications of things (including crimes) when it involves crossing state lines.

But if you create a "Let me Google that for you" (or a let me Bing that for you) for that exact same phrase the result you get instead starts with a big info block (let's face it, paid ad) with info all about how it's perfectly legal to cross state lines with a gun for any intent so long as you're not the one doing the transporting etc etc clearly targeted for Kyle Rittenhouse info. The bottom of it credits the ad to: Reference: blog.gunassociation.org/travel-interstate-firearm/

Rittenhouse was found not guilty by reason of self defense after shooting dead two and injuring a third person. The two dead victims have no self-defense claims, they couldn't shoot back. Trayvon Martin can't make a self defence claim, he's dead.
The two acquitted, Kyle Rittenhouser and George Zimmerman killed people by carrying guns and continue to walk freely with their guns to kill again.

This may not be worthy of its own post, but this night in Waukesha (50 miles from Kenosha) an SUV slammed through a Christmas parade. I'm hoping it's just a drunk driver at this point.
