Hawai‘i Is Not Our Playground

Too long to bother to read version

Hawaii native works as tour guide to try to remind people that the natives were screwed over because white people wanted the land they lived on, this time for vacations, and like all the other natives in america, no one cares that it happened or about them.

So you figure it'll be another century at least until the effects of colonialism are wiped clean?

I dunno how I feel about this.

How is the plight of Hawaiians any different from other displaced populations that lay claim to a piece of land? Current examples in Columbia and India and older examples like the native 'American' Indians and aboriginals in Taiwan show that this just happens over and over and is currently happening now in different pockets of the world.

I feel bad about it in the sense that the unfairness is easy judged, but I also can't imagine how things would work if things were reverted to how they were before. For example, what would Hawaii be if reverted back to an indigenous monarchy?

For a more extreme example, how would the Americas look if all land were returned back to the Indians? Where would the now displaced American peoples go?

I don't know how to either 1)justify regressing land use to the usually smaller and disenfranchised population or allowing 2) the vanquishers to totally disregard the wishes/rights/traditions of the former.

Progression of time does not always equate to progress of all people. I'm not stating this as belief or justification. It is only an observation stemming from a simple review of what happened in the past and what will likely occur in the future.
