Would/could/should the Australian law apply to SE as well?

I don't think SE counts as a digital giant. Is it even for-profit?

I like to think of it as a historical internet landmark. Y'all pay me about $5 a day to keep the place clean, but it's not filed with the IRS as a corp or anything.

Honestly both horses in this race stink - this government primarily does what Murdoch's News Limited wants - but I'd welcome Google leaving Australia and getting replaced by a local as long as News didn't own it. It's been ages since the Australian government has done anything to develop the tech industry.

"...but I'd welcome Google leaving Australia and getting replaced by a local as long as News didn't own it" And there's the rub.
Can't help but feel that this is more about arranging money for media backers. If they were serious they could arrange for Google to simply not index their sites. Google might come to the party on that one. |
