Can you Spot the Troll?

quote [ This quiz tests users’ ability to identify which accounts are genuine and which are professional trolls. Along the way, advice is provided for what to look for and how to be a better consumer and producer of social media. ]

Found this more interesting than I thought it would be.

I got 6/8 because I guessed that they were all trolls.

I have a confession. I'm a troll. Deep state. This has been a long con. I'm telling you now because I want out of the life, and am running off to somewhere in the tropics to start over in a peaceful town where everyone knows eachother, on an island without a single car... maybe start myself a little bar and whorehouse.

Things a troll would say. Why don't you just admit it, troll?!?!

I could be putting my life at risk by saying this, but every single SEer who claims to have met me is lying. The photographs are of someone else, stolen from a MySpace in the days before Instagram. They were all trolls too. Part of a plot to go not after the important and well-known sites, but an obscure one with no outcome on the election.

We were called Control Group.

I have to run now, or Putin may one day catch up with me.

Signs:
No identifying information. No location, no vocation. Vague background.
Appeal to sympathy. Pretends to have normal human desires, but does not tie them to a specific geographic location.

Checks out with me.

Apparently I suck at this. 5/8. My failure was assuming that some of these crazies were real people. I'm actually kind of glad to know they're fake.

Same. I know real people, some of whom aren't even particularly crazy IRL, whose social media posts are 100% hardline us-vs-them political memes.

I also missed the Instagram ones because I've never used Instagram and didn't know how to tell an "affinity group" from an individual user with a political-sounding username.

I got these all correct with barely a thought, but it was because I didn't read the question. I didn't know I was supposed to be guessing who was a real person, I just saw the headline of "Spot the Troll".

I've never used social media and these types of us-vs-them memes are mostly new to me. I guess I've never become accustomed to them. The level of stubborn, determinative aggression they convey is pretty much exactly how I define a troll - confrontation over communication. Does it matter if they are real people or not?

Reckon I'll stick to half-forgotten blogs populated by real people, even if they're former porn junkies that now post oddball sociology for misfits, or those same few real people who always turn up around election time and behave exactly like the bots in the link.

based on the nonchalant reply and attitude, I'd name Franger Sanger as a troll.

Continue to Signs? (y)

-8/8 correct? I doubt it. Real people aren't perfect. This can only be the result of autonomous programming.
-Faux humility? Check. Bots are always trying to take on human characteristics.
-Outside expert? Positioning itself as an moral outsider to critique and thereby deflate a group of people is a classic AI approach to deflecting scrutiny.

-Upvotes people who call them out? Check.
-Recognises when they are outclassed by a superior program? шах и мат.

Me too. I did terribly (I highlighted most as trolls), because I use this as a definition :

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who starts flame wars or intentionally upsets people on the Internet by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community

You don't have to be fake to troll. Nowadays, it doesn't matter if it's done on purpose or not, it shits in the well of public debate. Intentionally or not.
