Kimchi protects against COVID-19, a study says

quote [ Consuming high levels of fermented cabbage brings down the number of ACE2, making it more difficult for the virus to enter the body. High in antioxidants, fermented cabbage is also good for boosting immunity. ]

Oh great. Start another panic-buying, why don't you?

You can easily make your own at home.

Not when price-gougers have bought up all the Chinese Leaf, and are selling it on eBay for its weight in truffles.

Pretty sure it is not the nappa cabbage that is the secrete ingredient. I also eat other kimchies made of cucumber, daikon radish, bean strouts, regular cabbage, broccoli.

Yup, it's about the fermentation bacteria. You find these in dairy products as well, as mentioned in the text.

[Edit:] The list of fermented foods is a cool inspiration. I doubt that you can generalize it like this, though.

So, does one carry an open jar of kimchi to keep everyone six feet away?

hiyooo!!!

Actually, I love kimchi and would choose to believe it cures anything.

Perhaps we should inject it.

Kimchi farts enforce social distancing.

That would explain why Korea handled it so well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the key contributions of this study are
1. the finding that "countries where fermented cabbage forms a key part of their diet have had lower fatalities", and
2. the speculation that "consuming high levels of fermented cabbage brings down the number of ACE2, making it more difficult for the virus to enter the body"

I might add Hangi, a traditional Maori meal of meat and vegetables slow-cooked in an underground oven, and Xiao Long Bao, the Taiwanese soup dumpling, to the list of miracle foods. Co-authorship to anyone who can come up with a convincing scientific rationale.

That was my first thought, too, especially the national aspect, attributing a whole country to a single meal. Just seeing that they're quoting the Sun does not make it more to trustworthy.

Interestingly, the study exists, though and wound up in another entry trying to collect more information on dietary influences concluding that this field could bring up more research.

Well, just saying – if it turns out practical, you heard it here first, heh.

It reinforces your gamma betas and slows toxin uptake.
