Doordash and Pizza Arbitrage

quote [ How did we get to a place where billions of dollars are exchanged in millions of business transactions but there are no winners? ]

After days on top of reading lists may as well post this money burner. You can complement it with … [more]

… this opinion piece on Deliveroo being too successful:

When every customer loses you money, it’s not good news for your business if customer numbers stay solid or even increase, unless there’s someone else who believes that’s a good thing. What these companies rely on is telling a story – largely to people who will invest in them. Their narrative is they’re “disrupting” existing industries, will build huge market share and customer bases, and thus can’t help but eventually become hugely profitable – just not yet.

I've always assumed these third party delivery companies weren't setup to be profitable, not as is. I assumed some people realized we were closer to fully automated delivery than we thought, and the company with the bugs worked out and the human infrastructure in place to swap out for automated could be stepping into a massively profitable near monopoly.

I'll leave a detailed comment later (going to bed) but in short my job just started delivery and hoo boy, what a complete shitshow.

I started doing Postmates in SoCal to make ends meet (balloons are essentially in hibernation until a vaccine is found).

I am paying my bills and living well. I do work 6-8 hours a day in a car, however listening to audio books and music in the AC all day is not a bad job. I make about $13/hour and spend about $20 a day in gas. It's allowing me to save up to restart the dildo business. That should keep me able to survive this storm.

As for the company itself, they are difficult to contact quickly and the app is not amazing. It needs to restart about 8x per day however those restarts are quick enough that I rarely lose work. Also, should the app need to restart it keeps my exact job order in place for the restart. They pay weekly and I occasionally earn an additional $10 per day just for doing my job at its regular speed.

I'm sorry that restaurants are dying, I am interested to see what they become given this new competition. (Ideally though, I just want you all to stop using it and learn to cook.)

I'd totally be interested in a post on your dildo creation workflow if you feel up for it one of these days. I've a friend of a friend that does silicone molds, cosplay weaponry, and all that sort of stuff. So between that and my plans for adult vibe apps, making my own sex toys have been on the list for quite some years. Now that I'm free of being a caregiver in an old folks home, I just gotta work up to making my roommates comfortable with it.🤞😅

I've been wanting to make one, however I just don't feel I've gotten to the level I want yet. I will though.

Making sex toys is not easy, takes lots of fiddling (ha), and is expensive. It should be a business or a VERY expensive hobby.

Actually, if you do get around to making that post I would be quite interested as well. Professionally speaking, you understand...

I reminded that the original Ponzi scheme, run by Ponzi himself, started as a totally legitimate arbitrage business.

This is a Silicon Valley plot. Life imitates art.
