This is not the only industry getting smashed by not being able to access the cloud of highly mobile skilled tradesmen I assume, but I've seen how it impacts us sailors.
There's a worldwide maritime workers community that FIFO for jobs on call when needed. I myself thought I'd have heaps of work at the start of this year, as some of our lads live in Italy or HK and got stuck out there. But now I can't even fly to the other side of our own country to join a ship. And to be honest. We've all got enough cash in the bank to sit out a swing or two, keep the misso company while she's trapped indoors, and not risk getting stuck out there when ports don't want to let ships in. Poor cunts stuck out there with no fresh food, months overswing. Fuck that. I know they're still getting paid but fuuuck that. |
