quote [ Return to Half-Life in VR, March 2020. ]

Looking forward to buying this just to see how Valve does a VR game.

Half-Life: Alyx

A set of Source 2 tools for building new levels will be available for the game, enabling any player to build and contribute new environments for the community to enjoy. Hammer, Valve’s level authoring tool, has been updated with all of the game's virtual reality gameplay tools and components.

Nice.

I own a Vive...I can imagine Steam will be on fire by those who don't own a VR kit. To tell you the truth, VR isn't as graphically nice as those demo videos. Resolution is not there yet even with the newer Vives.

We can't all afford a Varjo, but I've been pretty happy with my HP WMR v1, resolution wise. The update a few months ago for The Lab is freaking pristine at times. Sadly my little 1050ti doesn't hit the minimum specs of a 1060 for this.

Holy carp, that Varjo is steep, I got my Vive new when it did its last price drop before it was discontinued last year for 350 bucks. Now you can only find used ones fore sale.

Yeah, enterprise hardware, there's a couple like that out there. But the reviews I've heard are pretty impressive. I'm curious how much of a difference there would be in feel between the VarjoVR2 and a Valve Index running 144Hz. If you know what I mean. I can feel a definite mental "pull" when I switch between different spec headsets as my brain fights over whether or not what it's experiencing is real or not. The jump from Vive to HP was the biggest so far.

Apparently HTC just started doing "Certified pre-owned" on the main htc vive site; Refurbished or whatever for $400 which isn't necessarily bad, unless you take into account the nightmares I've heard regarding HTC's customer service. I've been keeping an eye on craigslist and occasionally I'll see a used one for under 400 with a bunch of the body trackers. Those are pretty tempting.

Half Life 3 was pretty good, but didn't live up to the expectation. I'm glad I waited until the Steam Sale.
