What’s Happening In Sweden?

quote [ There is a ‘Computer says no!’ quality to Swedish society, a sense that for anything to work at all, it must fit within the categories and fields of bureaucratic forms. What is striking to me, as an incomer, is how natural this seems to everyone else. It’s a testament to how well the system mostly works that it is not treated as a joke, in the way bureaucracies very often are. Instead, Sweden is exceptional for the level of trust that people have in institutions. ]

This is a very long read and a bit dry, but a good introduction into nuances of European/Scandinavian politics and their perception.

That's the gubmint for you. Trying to lure you down from your mountain compound by being all efficient and compassionate. But when you put down your shotgun, Wham! They hit you by paying for your cancer treatment. The Bastids.

Hm. Wonder if I'll learn anything about myself reading this. Being swedish and all.

Update: I learned I value sleep more than finishing this article. And there is a limit to how much I wanna think about all the neonazis.

I'm finding that a bit in Japan at the moment. It's super legalistic, but cause everyone is on the same page it all works really smoothly. A traffic cop who stung me for a $10 fine that in Australia would have been let straight through to the keeper, and required huge amounts of paperwork. People stopping for a walk/don't walk without a car in sight.
Currrently in Koreatown where everything is a bit more chill. But it honestly wouldn't be the same without it, and Japan wouldn't be as clean and efficient.
Reciepts for everything ay.
