Article 13 will wreck the internet because Swedish MEPs accidentally pushed the wrong voting button

quote [ In the EU, if a Member of the Parliament presses the wrong button on a vote, they can have the record amended to show what their true intention was, but the vote is binding. ]

I'm working here and as I press the wrong button they'll disappear

Sverigedemokraterna... A guy named Mark Collins left the party in Kramfors municipality. He supported the construction of a mosque and got flamed for it.
He said something like "I've been super naive. I've never realized what SD is untill the backlash I got. This is just like the nuremberg laws. I can not work for a xenophobic party like this."

That was a rather alarming read that failed to give much information. I was only peripherally aware of what was going on with copyright and the EU, which is totally my fault for remaining uninformed, but for those like me:

The directive's specific proposals include giving press publishers direct control over re-use of their content by Internet platforms such as online news aggregators (Article 11, also known as the "link tax") and requiring websites who primarily host user-generated content to take "effective and proportionate" measures to prevent the unauthorised posting of copyrighted content, or be liable for their users' actions (Article 13, also known as the "upload filter"). -From Wikipedia

Thanks. I was fumbling my Google check, found a lot of articles talking about how bad the amends were but not what they did.

I'm still not fully understanding the ramifications of these two articles, and wondering if they will effect European SE users' ability to view and post on this website.

Yeah, I'm not sure either. I don't think anyone that understands how the internet actually works had a hand in this. You can see similar issues with the way the EU (or was it UK) was trying to attack memes last year. We're gonna end up having to go to war to re-establish the commons.

That was the EU, and I believe it's part of Article 13. And, of course, there were memes about it:

Saw those. Somewhere there's an article that broke down what their ultimate goals were regarding IP based on legislation they tried to pass a couple years ago and it was straight up totalitarian. I'll see if I can find it. I know I had planned to post it, but then it just got a way from me in the endless flood of tabs I reside in.

Looks like it actually is related to this legislation. My memory is shit. :)
