It gets even worse when you realize that Grindelwald is Magneto and Dumbledore is Professor X... minus the part where Professor X wanted to make a world where Mutants and Non-Mutants could live in harmony... Instead it turns out Dumbledore is okay with segregation/separate-but-equal bullshit and he only looks good in the face of a Genocidal Charismatic.

While we are talking about Hairy Potter stuff, Harry Potter and the Natural 20 is amazing if you like D&D as well.

I listened to a random sixty seconds. Is this post-ironic, or is the OP genuinely concerned with the troubling real world implications of fun books for kids?

More like a critique on how incorporating history in to a story means you need to actually include it well if you want your story to hold up. Prime example is when Grindelwald mentions the holocaust for drama and it doesn't flow with the story. There's is a bit about how a stories portrayal of politics can date the author's style as well but if you're that far in to analysis you may as well have fun ranting. These books might be aimed at kids but that doesn't mean I cant want them to be good. Particularly since I will probably be in for the ride of reading them multiple times with the age gaps in the ones i'm watching.

They were fun books for kids 20 years ago. Harry Potter is a 25+ billion dollar franchise.

Fucking hell.

Harry Potter is the next Star Wars like franchise isn't it?

The kids love it.

Absolutely. It's not going anywhere anytime soon. Have you seen the theme park attractions in orlando? They're amazing!

I tried reading that for a while, and I like the premise, but Harry in that story is just such an insufferable dick. It's possible to be intelligent and rational without being an exploitative asshole.

It isn't and if you can get to the ending, you just might find out why.
