Quite a bad one, this year. My girlfriend is having the worst psychotic episode for eight years, and hasn’t slept more than an hour or two a night for weeks. She spent all last night trying to reason with the ghosts that she believes stole her heart, kidneys and liver, and will come back for the rest of her organs if she turns the light out. I only realised a few days ago that she has been spitting out her medication.

I feel for you. I hope you can get her some rest soon. In my experience thats what causes it to start, their Lack of sleep.

Thanks. Yes, it started with hypnic jerks from hell, so that every single time she was just dropping off, her whole body would convulse, making it impossible to sleep.

Sleep deprivation seems to exacerbate it, so it's a vicious circle. Eventually she's so tired that it the jerks are like a fit, and she still can't sleep. I hadn't thought of marijuana, but I don't suppose it mixes well with schizophrenia.

As much as i might sound like a douche for saying this, try CBD instead of THC.

THC has been shown to be an agonist for some with schizophrenia. In some it does perfectlu fine at calming them down. In my experiences with schizophrenics smoking pot, most are perfectly fine. They only show the odd thinking and beliefs when smoking concentrates. Base this upon my experience caring for both a friend and a roommate with documented forms of schizophrenia.

High dose CBD (half gram to one gram) has been shown to help with spams from restless leg syndrome. Pretty sure it will help jerking during hypnagogic state. It also has been shown to be safe for people with schizophrenia. If I can find the study i will post. Someone was postulating that CBD might help to ease the paranoia caused by episodes.

Anyway, if you two decide to try the CBD route, lemme know. Especially if it works for you.

Thanks. I've been bullying her into (I think) taking her medication for two days now, but I don't know how long it takes to kick in. I'll contact Mental Health when they open on Thursday.

Depending on the meds, it may take just over a week and if you uh notice the pattern the meds my cause things to get "worst" until they have leveled in her system.

Every tried take a sleeping pill and stay up if you get past that first hour you usually go from tired to did I drop a shit ecstacy just before.

If your able to try getting her to exercise and wear excess energy off other ways may help exhausting her body to sleep.

It's just about over already on this side of the dateline. All that's left is a billion blowflies feasting on a bowlful of prawn heads.
