Thoroughly good read. Good writing of that caliber is harder and harder to come by these days.
Beohner ... is far from horrible. A technocrat and a deal-maker, he had what amounted to an impossible job. Personally I blame Gingrich for most of the mess. Boehner's contribution to the downward spiral was largely a well-intentioned mistake: getting rid of earmarks. Maybe a more skillful leader could have broken the tea party on the rocks of its own ambition and brought everyone into line, but I doubt it. |
